Hamburg, December 12 – The Hamburg Senate has announced that a specific area of Hamburg-Stellingen will be designated a ‘RISE-Fördergebiet’ (RISE Funding Area) starting in January. This strategic move aims to channel public funding for at least ten years into improving the quality of life within this district.
What is the RISE Program?
The ‘Rahmenprogramm Integrierte Stadtteilentwicklung’ (RISE), or Framework Program for Integrated Urban District Development, is designed to provide sustained financial support to selected urban areas. The primary objective is to implement comprehensive improvements that address various aspects of community living, from infrastructure to social amenities.
Key Areas of Focus in Stellingen
The designated area encompasses the residential quarters on both sides of Kieler Straße, stretching between the Pelikanstieg intersection in the north and Langenfelder Damm in the south. Additionally, the Sportpark Eimsbüttel on Hagenbeckstraße is included in this initiative.
Residents of Stellingen have expressed a clear vision for the improvements they wish to see. Their wish list includes:
- Enhanced Sports and Exercise Facilities: A greater variety of options for physical activity and recreation.
- Central Meeting Points: Dedicated spaces for youth and older residents to gather and socialize.
- More Green and Recreational Areas: Expansion and improvement of parks and open spaces for relaxation and community use.
Long-Term Commitment to Stellingen’s Future
The commitment of public funding for a minimum of ten years underscores the long-term vision for Stellingen’s development. This sustained investment is expected to foster significant positive changes, making the district more attractive and functional for its inhabitants.
The program aims to create a more vibrant and inclusive community by addressing the specific needs and desires of the residents. This integrated approach ensures that development is holistic, covering various facets of urban life.
Broader Context of Urban Development in Hamburg
The designation of Stellingen as a RISE funding area is part of a broader trend in Hamburg to continually enhance its urban landscape and address the evolving needs of its diverse districts. Other recent initiatives and discussions across Hamburg highlight a proactive approach to urban planning and community engagement:
- ‘Hand in Hand für Norddeutschland’ Donation Day: A major donation day was held in Hamburg, with NDR staff and celebrities collecting donations for this significant regional initiative.
- Legal Street Art Spaces in Hamburg-Nord: Following the examples of Barcelona and Paris, the district assembly has approved the creation of legal spaces for artists to engage in street art and graffiti in Hamburg-Nord.
- Joint Night Commissioner for Mitte and Altona: The districts of Mitte and Altona are planning to appoint a joint night commissioner. This role will serve as a contact person, confidant, and mediator, soon covering areas like Schanze, Ottensen, and Karoviertel.
- More Public Toilets on Playgrounds in Wandsbek: The district factions in Wandsbek have decided to install more public toilets on playgrounds, drawing inspiration from other cities.
These initiatives collectively demonstrate Hamburg’s commitment to creating a sustainable, livable, and culturally rich environment for all its residents.
The implementation of the RISE program in Stellingen is anticipated to bring about substantial improvements, reflecting a community-driven development model focused on enhancing public spaces and social infrastructure.
