Cannabis Plantations Discovered in Spandau and Wedding, Berlin
Berlin, January 13 – Police in Berlin successfully uncovered two separate cannabis plantations yesterday, one in Spandau and another in Wedding, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals. These operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle illegal drug cultivation within the capital.
Spandau Operation: Suspicious Activity Leads to Discovery
The first discovery in Spandau was prompted by a vigilant witness who observed two men moving several bags from a vacant apartment into a white van. Suspecting a burglary, the witness alerted the police. Upon the arrival of officers, the suspects attempted to flee, first into the stairwell and then onto the attic, where they were subsequently apprehended.
What initially appeared to be a burglary quickly escalated into a drug-related investigation. Police confirmed that the bags contained cannabis plants. Following further investigations, a judicial search warrant was obtained, leading to the discovery of:
- 119 cannabis plants
- 10 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis flowers
- Extensive equipment for operating a plantation
- A potentially tampered electricity supply
The van was also found to be fully loaded with evidence. Additionally, cash and several smartphones were seized as part of the operation.
Wedding Incident: Aggressive Resident Reveals Another Plantation
A second cannabis plantation was discovered in Wedding under unusual circumstances. A resident attempting to have their door opened by a locksmith encountered an aggressive reaction from another resident. The locksmith, feeling threatened, fled the scene and alerted the authorities.
When police arrived at the apartment door, loud banging noises, resembling gunshots, were heard from within. Officers withdrew and surrounded the building. Special forces were then deployed to apprehend the man inside the apartment. To their surprise, a search of the apartment revealed a cannabis plantation containing approximately 6 kg of cannabis. A blank-firing weapon, likely the source of the loud noises, was also found.
Other Incidents Across Berlin and Brandenburg
These incidents were part of a broader series of police and fire department activities reported across Berlin and Brandenburg on January 13:
