Berlin-Lichtenberg’s “Dark Matter” is transforming winter into a luminous art spectacle with a stunning light installation. Featuring 250,000 lights, 600 suspended Christmas trees, and an ice rink in the middle of the space, this new exhibition promises an extraordinary sensory experience.
A Winter Wonderland of Light and Sound
The exhibition, which opened on Friday, January 17, 2026, will run until January 4, 2026. It is the brainchild of Berlin-based light and media artist Christopher Bauder, renowned for his internationally acclaimed light shows. Bauder’s latest work masterfully blends tradition, contemporary art, and a festive winter ambiance to create a truly immersive environment.
Visitors can wander through the sparkling winter wonderland or glide across the integrated ice rink beneath glittering disco balls. The unique installation features Christmas trees hanging upside down from the ceiling, a modern interpretation of an Eastern European custom, which Bauder describes as “a symbol of life, hope, and protection during the darkest season.”
A Harmonious Blend of Art and Music
The visual spectacle is complemented by an original soundscape composed by Dutch musician Chris Kuijten. His music infuses the sea of lights with the energy of a club or concert, creating a captivating contrast that draws visitors deeper into the atmosphere.
Entry to the exhibition is timed, with sessions starting every 45 minutes. The regular admission fee is 12 Euros, with an additional 5 Euros for ice skating. Discounts are available for children and apprentices.

With this new winter edition, the team once again demonstrates its ability to create exhibitions that are not merely displays of art but rather unforgettable experiences, suspended between magic, music, and movement.
