Munich, January 22 – A newly opened daycare center in the Hasenbergl district of Munich has been forced to close its doors just four months after its grand opening. The facility, located at Schleißheimer Straße 501, opposite the Mira shopping center, suffered extensive water damage in its entire ground floor due to a technical malfunction, necessitating the relocation of 41 children.
Technical Flaw Leads to Significant Water Damage
The daycare center, which commenced operations in September, experienced a major incident that resulted in the complete flooding of its ground floor. Nicole Hüsken, spokesperson for the operator Babilou-Family, confirmed the closure, stating, “Due to a technical planning error, water damage occurred.” She further explained, “A defective lifting system caused a backflow, leading to an overflow of the cold water flushing system.”
Repair work has already begun, involving the drying of the floors and the installation of a new lifting system. The duration of these repairs remains uncertain, and the facility will remain closed until further notice.
41 Children Affected, Alternative Care Provided
Since Monday, the daycare center has been temporarily closed. Ms. Hüsken assured that the organization is actively supporting affected parents. “Naturally, we are supporting all parents and have already offered alternative care for all children,” she stated.
The 41 children, who were previously cared for in one crèche group and two kindergarten groups, are being accommodated in other facilities operated by Babilou-Family. This incident highlights a recurring issue, as another daycare center in Munich has also experienced repeated water damage.
Impact on the Community and Future Outlook
The sudden closure has undoubtedly caused disruption for the families relying on the daycare center. The incident underscores the importance of stringent technical planning and maintenance in public facilities, especially those catering to young children.
As the repair work progresses, the community awaits further updates regarding the reopening of the daycare center and the long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future. The focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of the children, as well as providing stable and reliable childcare services for the residents of Munich.
