1860 Munich Fan Attacked by Group of Ten Men in Glockenbachviertel

Munich, January 22, 2026 – A 21-year-old supporter of TSV 1860 Munich was brutally attacked and injured by a group of approximately ten young men in the Glockenbachviertel district last Friday night. The assault, which left the victim requiring hospital treatment, marks another incident of violence within the city’s football fan scene, following a similar attack on a 19-year-old fan just days prior.

Brutal Assault in Jahnstraße

The incident occurred shortly before midnight on Friday in Jahnstraße. The 21-year-old Munich resident was standing outside a pub, smoking, when he was accosted by a group estimated to be between seven and twelve individuals. According to police reports, the attackers verbally abused him for his allegiance to the “Lions,” the nickname for TSV 1860 Munich, before pushing him to the ground and repeatedly kicking him.

A police spokesperson stated on Wednesday that it is currently unclear how the assailants identified their victim as an 1860 Munich fan. The victim sought outpatient treatment at a hospital and reported the incident to the police on Sunday.

Criminal Police Investigate Fan Violence

The Criminal Investigation Department 23, which specializes in youth and fan-related violence, has launched an investigation into the attack. This unit is also investigating a similar incident that occurred on Saturday, in which a 19-year-old 1860 Munich fan had his scarf stolen. Authorities are appealing to the public for witnesses to both incidents.

The perpetrators are described as young men aged between 16 and 19 years old. The recent attacks highlight an escalating rivalry between the supporters of FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich, with a growing generation of fans reportedly organizing in a more aggressive and confrontational manner.

The increasing frequency and severity of these incidents are a cause for concern among local authorities and football clubs, who are working to address the rising tensions within the fan communities.
