Insolvent Schlosspark-Klinik in Charlottenburg: Rescue Effort Fails
Berlin, January 28, 2026 – The Schlosspark-Klinik in Charlottenburg, after 56 years of operation, is largely ceasing its activities on Friday, January 30th, 2026. This was reported by the newspaper “B.Z.” citing a clinic spokesperson. “There will be no more consultations, no more operations, and no more therapies,” she explained. The emergency room has not been admitting patients with physical ailments since January 15th, but psychiatric patients will continue to be treated and cared for.
The End of an Era: Most Departments to Close
The decision to close most departments comes after the clinic filed for self-administration insolvency proceedings with the Berlin district court last June. A self-administration insolvency procedure allows a company, within the framework of court proceedings, to manage a restructuring itself with the help of a trustee. The clinic spokesperson cited increased material and personnel costs as reasons for the insolvency.
According to media reports, the following departments are affected by the definitive closure: General and Visceral Surgery, Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Ophthalmology, Vascular Surgery, Radiology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics.
Neurology and Psychiatry to Relocate
The Neurology and Psychiatry departments will be preserved and are expected to transfer to the Alexianer St. Gertrauden-Krankenhaus on Paretzer Straße in Wilmersdorf in the first quarter of 2026, subject to final legal review. However, the Psychiatry department will initially remain at its current location on Heubnerweg in Charlottenburg until the end of 2027, as renovations are still required at the Gertrauden-Krankenhaus. Only after this relocation will the Schlosspark-Klinik premises be completely shut down.
Uncertainty for 800 Employees
The fate of the 800 employees remains unclear. “A joint personnel concept is currently being developed between the old and new operators,” explained Gunnar Pietzner, Managing Director of Schlosspark-Klinik. The aim is to transfer employees from nursing and specific functional services.
Sister Clinic Also Facing Financial Difficulties
The sister clinic, Park-Klinik Weißensee, is also in financial distress. Its management applied for preliminary self-administration proceedings last autumn. The Park-Klinikum and the Schlosspark-Klinik are jointly managed but are legally independent GmbHs. According to the operator’s latest figures from October, the Park-Klinik Weißensee serves approximately 14,000 patients, while the Schlosspark-Klinik served around 10,000.
This development underscores the growing challenges faced by healthcare institutions in Berlin, grappling with rising operational costs and changing economic landscapes.
