Hamburg, January 27 – Five people were injured, one seriously, in a multi-vehicle accident on the B5 in Hamburg-Bergedorf on Tuesday morning. The B5 had to be closed in both directions for several hours.

Four-Vehicle Collision on B5

The severe traffic accident took place on the main road leading towards Bergedorf. A car veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an approaching vehicle. Shortly thereafter, two more cars drove into the accident scene, colliding with the first two vehicles involved.

The scene of the accident resembled a debris field. Police reported one seriously injured person and four with minor injuries. According to Hamburg police, the 55-year-old driver responsible for the accident may have lost control of his car due to a sudden illness.

Hours-Long Closure of B5

The B5 was closed between Krusestraße and Lohbrügger Landstraße in both directions for several hours to allow for accident investigation and clearance. This led to traffic congestion on alternative routes in the Bergedorf/Lohbrügge area.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. An expert has been called in to investigate whether slippery conditions played a role. The incident was reported on NDR 90,3 | NDR 90,3 Aktuell on January 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
