Berlin Kicks Off Olympic Campaign: “Berlin Wins with the Olympics”

Berlin, January 30 – The German capital has officially launched its campaign to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, emphasizing a vision centered on the city’s youth and long-term urban development. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) unveiled the campaign, aptly named “Berlin wins with the Olympics,” during a presentation at the Velodrom, attended by 150 children.

“We want better sports infrastructure for our sports clubs, for our sports metropolis Berlin. But above all, we want investments in our city’s future,” stated Mayor Wegner. He underscored the city’s commitment to creating lasting positive impacts beyond the sporting events themselves.

Long-Term Benefits for the Entire City

Addressing the young attendees, Wegner articulated the aspiration to bring the Olympic Games to Berlin not just for athletic competitions, but for the comprehensive betterment of the entire city. Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) echoed this sentiment, highlighting the enduring advantages the Games would bring to Berlin.

“Modern sports facilities, better training conditions and new spaces for exercise will not only benefit top-class sport, but above all the people of Berlin in their everyday lives. That is exactly what this bid is all about: long-term added value for the capital,” Senator Spranger affirmed. This focus on tangible, long-term benefits for all Berliners is a cornerstone of the campaign.

Public Involvement Through Workshops and Tours

The campaign’s visual elements are now being rolled out across Berlin’s advertising platforms and social media channels, with more to follow. A popular initiative by the Landessportbund (LSB) to support the bid has already garnered over 28,000 votes, leading to a resolution in the House of Representatives.

To ensure broad public engagement, the organizers plan to involve Berliners actively through a series of workshops, online seminars, and neighborhood tours. This participatory approach aims to foster a sense of collective ownership and support for the Olympic bid among the city’s residents.

The initiative underscores Berlin’s ambition to not only host a world-class sporting event but to leverage it as a catalyst for significant urban improvements and a brighter future for its younger generations.
