Roof Fire Engulfs Spandau Building, Traffic Impeded

Berlin, February 4 – Over 100 firefighters are currently engaged in a large-scale operation to extinguish a roof fire at a multi-family residential building on Brunsbütteler Damm in Berlin-Spandau. The blaze, which started on the roof, has reportedly spread to an adjacent side wing of the building. As of now, there are no reports of injuries.

Firefighters Face Challenges Due to Freezing Temperatures

The operation, which began around 11:30 AM, has been complicated by freezing temperatures in Berlin. According to a fire department spokesperson, several hydrants in the vicinity were frozen, hindering initial efforts to quickly douse the flames. This unforeseen obstacle has required firefighters to adapt their strategy, including bringing in specialized equipment to manage the water supply.

The fire department was alerted to the incident at approximately 11:30 AM. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to determine what ignited the blaze in the five-story building.

Traffic Disruptions on Brunsbütteler Damm

Due to the extensive emergency response, traffic on Brunsbütteler Damm has been significantly affected. Commuters are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, as road closures and diversions are in place to allow emergency vehicles unimpeded access to the scene. Local public transport may also experience delays or reroutings.

Other Incidents in Berlin and Brandenburg

This incident is one of several reported across Berlin and Brandenburg today. Earlier, police investigated a suspected shooting at a bar in Charlottenburg, where a loud bang was heard and a bullet hole was found in the building’s exterior. Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident.

In Barnim, a regional train collided with a car at an unguarded railway crossing, causing disruptions to train services. No injuries were reported in this accident either.

Separately, in Pankow, police used a taser to subdue a 50-year-old man who was threatening officers and found to be in possession of various weapons and a small quantity of narcotics in a garden shed. He was taken to a hospital for examination.

In Wittenau, police dispersed an unauthorized gathering that disrupted a political party meeting, with two individuals resisting removal and being carried out by officers.

Furthermore, an attempted ATM bombing was thwarted by a security guard in Neu-Hohenschönhausen, and a person died in a garden shed fire in Altglienicke, where two others sustained minor injuries. The cause of that fire is under investigation.

Authorities continue to monitor these and other ongoing situations across the region, providing updates as they become available.
