Salman Rushdie to Present New Book in Munich Amidst German Tour
Munich, February 9th – Renowned author Salman Rushdie will include Munich as a stop on his upcoming German tour to promote his new book, ‘The Eleventh Hour.’ The presentation is scheduled for March 21st at the Literaturhaus in Munich, where actor Axel Milberg will introduce the book in German.
This tour marks Rushdie’s first major literary presentation since the assassination attempt he survived in 2022. ‘The Eleventh Hour’ is a collection of five short stories that delve into the theme of death, a poignant subject considering his recent experiences.
Tour Schedule Across Germany and Austria
Rushdie’s tour will commence on March 19th at the Nikolaisaal in Potsdam, as announced by the Lit.Potsdam literary festival. Following his appearance in Potsdam, he will visit Cologne on March 20th to participate in the Lit.Cologne festival at the WDR Funkhaus. After his Munich engagement, Rushdie is also expected to attend the Literatur im Nebel festival in Heidenreichstein, Austria, on March 22nd and 23rd.
A Return to Fiction After a Traumatic Event
The upcoming book is Rushdie’s first work of fiction since the brutal attack in summer 2022, during which he was stabbed more than a dozen times. The incident resulted in the loss of sight in one eye, and he now wears darkened glasses. Despite this life-altering event, Rushdie continues his prolific career, which also includes cameo appearances in films such as the British movie ‘Bridget Jones.’
Rushdie gained international notoriety in 1989 when Iran’s then-revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for his assassination over his novel ‘The Satanic Verses,’ deemed blasphemous. This forced the author into years of hiding.
The announcement of his return to public literary events has been met with significant anticipation from readers and the literary community alike.
