Berlin Central Station Sees Drop in Violent Crimes, Improving Safety Ranking

Berlin, February 15, 2026 – Berlin Central Station has reported a significant decrease in violent crimes in the past year, according to figures released by the Federal Police. This positive trend marks a notable improvement in safety at one of Germany’s busiest transport hubs.

Federal Police Report: Significant Reduction in Incidents

The Federal Police data reveals a substantial decline in violent offenses, with cases falling from 764 in 2024 to 654 in 2025. This reduction has shifted Berlin Central Station from its previous position as the station with the highest number of violent incidents nationwide.

Leipzig and Dortmund Now Ahead of Berlin

In 2024, Berlin Central Station unfortunately held the top spot for violent crimes across Germany. However, in 2025, it moved down to third place. The main stations in Leipzig, with 859 reported cases, and Dortmund, with 735 cases, now record more incidents than Berlin.

These figures were made available to the German Press Agency and were previously reported by the “Bild am Sonntag.” The 2024 data originated from a response by the federal government to a query from the AfD parliamentary group.

New German Rail Program Enhances Security

In response to calls for increased safety and cleanliness at train stations by Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU), German Rail (Deutsche Bahn) launched a new program in January. This initiative aims to bolster security measures across the country’s rail network.

Under this program, 25 selected train stations are receiving additional security personnel. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Federal Police, more stations are being equipped with advanced camera and surveillance technology. Berlin Central Station is among those benefiting from these enhanced security measures, implementing additional safeguards to protect passengers and staff.

The improved security situation at Berlin Central Station is a welcome development for both travelers and residents, reflecting a concerted effort to make public spaces safer and more secure.
