Right-Wing Violence Cases Surge in Hamburg by Nearly 300 in 2025

Hamburg, March 6, 2026 – The number of reported criminal and violent acts from the right-wing spectrum in Hamburg has significantly increased. Police counted 911 cases last year, nearly 300 more than in 2024, as announced by the Senate in response to an inquiry from the Left Party faction.

In 2025, Hamburg police reported 911 cases of right-wing violence, marking a substantial rise from the previous year’s figures. Acts of right-wing violence include, among other things, the display of unconstitutional symbols such as the swastika or the Hitler salute. These constitute the majority of reported incidents, alongside insults.

65 Cases Involving Bodily Harm

Beyond symbolic acts and verbal abuse, 2025 also saw 65 cases of bodily harm with politically right-wing motivation. A notable development is the police’s observation of an increase in antisemitic and anti-Muslim violence from the right since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict.

Left Party Demands Decisive Action

Deniz Çelik, the domestic policy spokesperson for the Left Party faction in the Bürgerschaft, called for a more decisive approach against right-wing extremism. The statistics, however, do not provide information on how often these cases were solved. They merely record the number of investigations initiated when an initial suspicion existed.

“Last Wave of Defense”: Young Neo-Nazis on Trial

A trial against young neo-Nazis is commencing in Hamburg. They are accused of founding a right-wing terrorist organization, which originated in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This development underscores the ongoing challenges posed by right-wing extremism in the region.

The issue of rising right-wing violence is a growing concern for authorities and political figures in Hamburg, prompting calls for increased vigilance and more effective measures to combat these trends. The reported figures highlight the need for a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes and manifestations of right-wing extremism within the community.
