Hamburg, March 6 – Lufthansa Technik, a global leader in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, has announced a record revenue of over eight billion euros for the past year. The company, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is planning substantial investments at its main Hamburg site and aims to create hundreds of new jobs.
Record Revenue Despite Economic Headwinds
Lufthansa Technik’s core business involves the maintenance, repair, and modification of aircraft. The company, based at Hamburg Airport, is a global leader in its sector, with approximately a quarter of its revenue generated from aircraft outside the Lufthansa Group. Engine maintenance and overhaul are particularly in high demand.
Despite achieving a record revenue exceeding eight billion euros in 2025, the company did not see a significant increase in profit. This was primarily due to additional costs incurred from US tariffs, which the company estimates to be over 30 million euros, and the unfavourable low dollar exchange rate.
Expansion into Defense Sector and New Projects
Lufthansa Technik is increasingly expanding its involvement in the defense sector, now servicing aircraft for the German Air Force and Navy. This diversification is part of the company’s strategic growth plan.
In Hamburg, three new construction projects are currently underway: an additional workshop for aircraft components, a new warehouse and logistics center, and a new hydraulics workshop. These projects represent a triple-digit million-euro investment. Concurrently, the company intends to hire several hundred additional employees this year, signaling a strong commitment to its Hamburg base.
Sustainable Energy for Hamburg Airport and Lufthansa Technik
In a move towards sustainability, both Hamburg Airport and Lufthansa Technik will be supplied with district heating in the future. The new pipeline for this purpose is expected to be operational by 2028, further enhancing the environmental profile of these key infrastructure facilities.
Challenges and Outlook
While the company celebrates its revenue growth, the impact of international trade policies and currency fluctuations remains a concern. Hamburg’s Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) has previously criticized the tariff policies of US President Trump, highlighting the broader economic context affecting companies like Lufthansa Technik.
The planned investments and job creation underscore Lufthansa Technik’s confidence in its future growth and its commitment to Hamburg as a central hub for its global operations. The company’s ability to innovate and adapt to changing market conditions, including its expansion into the defense sector, positions it for continued success.
