Munich, March 10, 2026 – The Munich Cathedral School is inviting young, aspiring singers to join its ranks, offering a comprehensive vocal education and the chance to contribute to the musical liturgy at Munich’s Frauenkirche. The school is looking for boys and girls from elementary school age who are passionate about singing.
Information Afternoon for Prospective Students and Parents
An information afternoon is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th, from 2:30 PM to approximately 3:30 PM. The event will take place at the school’s premises in the Albertinum (Westendstraße 300, near Westpark, close to the Rosengarten entrance).
During this session, children will have the opportunity to learn a song together, providing a taste of the choir’s collaborative atmosphere. Simultaneously, interested parents will receive detailed information from the responsible teachers regarding the school’s program and expectations.
“We invite all interested children and parents to actively get to know the choir work of the Munich Cathedral School and to convince themselves of the vocal quality, but also the good atmosphere and the enriching togetherness in our choirs,” stated Dompfarrer Monsignore Klaus Peter Franzl.
A Holistic Approach to Musical and Social Development
The children and young people enrolled in the Cathedral School attend rehearsals up to two afternoons per week. Here, they are introduced to both sacred and secular choral music, fostering a love for communal music-making and enhancing their social skills.
Beyond musical training, the Cathedral School also provides practical support for its students, including lunch and homework supervision. For those interested, instrumental lessons can be arranged, and from the fifth grade onwards, individual or group vocal coaching is also available.
A Vibrant Community of Young Musicians
Currently, around 120 boys and girls, ranging from six years old to adulthood (up to 25 years), attend the Cathedral School. The Domsingknaben (Cathedral Boys’ Choir) and Mädchenkantorei (Girls’ Cantorei) rehearse in four different choir levels. Additionally, the Junge Domkantorei (Young Cathedral Cantorei) caters to singers of adolescent age.
These young musicians actively participate in church services and concerts at the Munich Liebfrauendom. They regularly embark on rehearsal retreats and undertake trips to national and international choir gatherings, enriching their musical experience and fostering a sense of community.

A Rich History Rooted in Tradition
The Munich Cathedral School boasts a history dating back to the 16th century. Duke Albrecht V established the Albertinum, named after him, to provide twelve boys with free schooling, vocal training, accommodation, and meals. In return, these students contributed to church music. The first music prefect of the Albertinum was the esteemed court kapellmeister, Orlando di Lasso, highlighting the school’s long-standing tradition of musical excellence.
This initiative continues the rich legacy of the Munich Cathedral School in nurturing young musical talent and contributing to the cultural and spiritual life of the city.
