Similarly, Transport Senator Ute Bonde (CDU) emphasized the financial challenges, stating, “We are facing financial challenges, we have infrastructural and operational constraints.” She added that “the construction of a subway with a view to profitability leads to challenges.”
The CDU’s reluctance stems from concerns about the financial viability and the significant investment required for such large-scale infrastructure projects. However, not extending these U-Bahn connections would leave large settlements, such as Heerstraße Nord, without a crucial subway link, impacting thousands of residents.
