First Lego Building Space for Adults ‘Out of the Blox’ Opens in Munich

Munich, April 2 – So many childhood dreams of adult Lego fans can now come true in Munich. Germany’s first Lego building space for adults, “Out of the Blox,” invites people to build and unwind without having to buy the sets. However, the fun comes with a price tag: according to the website, it costs 15 euros per hour – or 90 euros for a “day pass.”

A New Concept for Lego Enthusiasts

Mit-founder Moritz Janke, who opened the building space with his girlfriend Melanie Sotouky, states that the focus is on communal building. Many fans love the models but lack the space or shy away from the purchase costs. In this new concept, guests can “build exactly the set they always wanted.”

The selection is vast. The collection includes sets from the “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter” series, as well as famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower or the gigantic Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Opening Day Success and the Sound of Bricks

On its opening day, the store was filled with numerous visitors, who built both on the floor, reminiscent of childhood days, and at one of the many tables. The distinctive sound of rummaging through a box for the next Lego brick was constantly audible.

Forgetting Time Without Smartphones

“I can totally forget time here,” visitors enthused on the opening day. Even smartphones remained untouched, one guest noted. “Something beautiful happens when you build: thoughts organize themselves, stress falls away – and suddenly a few hours have passed,” summarized Melanie Sotouky.

Popular Sets and Future Plans

“Harry Potter” sets were particularly popular at the Lego building space on opening day. “But we also have many of them,” says Moritz Janke. The large sets are also popular. “You have to be careful though, even if I can build quickly, I won’t finish the Death Star in two hours.” But no problem: unfinished sets can be stored and completed later.

Should a set be so appealing that it should move into the living room at home, it can – with a few exceptions – also be purchased. In the future, the founding couple also wants to offer a second-hand trade with the sets. The offer is specifically aimed at adults, but, as Melanie Sotouky says, “of course, families with children are also more than welcome.”

Adults as a Growing Target Group in Toys

Adults have long become an important target group for toys. In many markets, adult toy fans generate 30 percent of sales, reported Christian Ulrich, CEO of the Nuremberg Toy Fair, at the end of January. This trend underscores the potential and demand for specialized offerings like “Out of the Blox.”
