Porsche Driver Leads Police Chase, Causes Accident in Munich City Centre

Munich, April 7 – A dramatic police chase unfolded on Good Friday afternoon in Munich when a Porsche driver, suspected of drug use, refused to stop for officers, leading to an accident in the city centre. The incident, which began around 2:30 PM, involved a 43-year-old German-Romanian man with no fixed residence in Germany, who is now facing multiple charges.

The pursuit began after several witnesses alerted the police emergency hotline about a man driving a Porsche on Hermann-Lingg-Straße, with suspicions that he had consumed narcotics. A police patrol located the Porsche heading towards Bavariaring and attempted to stop the driver for a check.

High-Speed Chase Through Bahnhofsviertel

Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, ignoring police signals and speeding through the Bahnhofsviertel in a erratic manner. According to a police statement issued on Easter Monday, the Porsche driver disregarded traffic regulations, ran red lights, and endangered other road users.

The chase continued as the driver turned right onto Schwanthalerstraße and then left onto Bayerstraße. During the pursuit, the Porsche grazed an oncoming BMW but continued driving towards Landsberger Straße. The chase finally ended at Landsberger Straße 35, where the Porsche collided with an oncoming Toyota and a barrier. The impact caused one of the Porsche’s rear tires to burst, bringing the vehicle to a halt.

Driver Suspected of Cocaine Influence

Following the collision, police were able to apprehend the driver. A 29-year-old Nigerian woman residing in Munich was a passenger in the vehicle; neither she nor anyone else was injured in the accident. On-site investigations strengthened the suspicion that the 43-year-old driver was under the influence of cocaine. A blood sample was ordered, and the results were pending as of Easter Monday. After police procedures were completed, the driver was released.

Significant material damage was reported to all involved vehicles and the barrier.

Police Seek Witnesses and Further Victims

The Munich traffic police have launched an investigation into the incident, with charges including endangering road traffic, illegal motor vehicle racing, leaving the scene of an accident, and violating the Narcotics Act.

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Witnesses who can provide relevant information about the accident, particularly anyone who was hindered or endangered by the fleeing driver’s behaviour, are asked to contact the accident command at Tel: 089/6216 3322.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of Munich police to ensure road safety and address drug-related driving offences within the city.
