Adlershof Community School Nears Completion, Set to Open in Summer 2026
Berlin, April 13, 2026 – A new community school in Berlin-Adlershof, designed to accommodate over 1,300 students, is nearing its final stages of construction. The project, located at Eisenhutweg 129, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026, with school operations commencing in the 2026/27 academic year.
Construction began in 2023, and the site currently shows significant progress. Scaffolding surrounds the school building as façade work continues, and several cranes dominate the landscape. Large sections of the building are already in shell construction, with initial elements of the façade already installed.
Strategic Location and Capacity
The school’s location, nestled between residential areas, the Johannisthal Landscape Park, and the Technology Park, positions it as a central hub within the Treptow-Köpenick district. This strategic placement aims to meet the growing demand for educational facilities in the area.
The school will serve approximately 1,300 students, addressing the increasing population in the surrounding communities. The project is a key initiative to strengthen the connection between living, research, and leisure in the district.
Construction Progress and Design
According to project participants, the shell construction of the community school was completed by the end of 2024. Currently, interior fit-out work is underway, with craftsmen focusing on the building envelope and preparing technical installations.
The building complex features a distinctive layout, with several interconnected structures forming a comprehensive school campus. Inner courtyards are integrated into the design, providing green recreational spaces for students. The extensive grounds are functionally designed to support a vibrant learning environment.
The campus also includes extensive sports facilities and open spaces, designed to cater to the diverse needs of the student body. The sports fields are already laid out, with construction on the main school building ongoing in the background.
Innovative Educational Concept
The Adlershof Community School is being developed based on the “Compartment Concept.” This innovative design groups classrooms around central learning areas, eliminating traditional long corridors. Instead, flexible learning zones are created to accommodate different age groups and promote collaborative learning.
The school will comprise a three-stream primary level, a six-stream secondary level I, and a four-stream upper secondary level. In addition to academic facilities, the campus will feature a large sports hall with six sections, along with outdoor sports fields and open recreational areas.
Collaboration with Technology Park and Modern Learning Environment
The proximity to the Technology Park opens up opportunities for future collaborations, potentially enriching the educational experience for students. The new building is designed to provide modern learning conditions, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
The total construction costs for the project are estimated at approximately 100 million Euros. This significant investment underscores the commitment to providing high-quality education in Berlin.
