Hamburg Gears Up for 837th Harbor Birthday with Grand Celebrations and International Flair
Hamburg, April 17, 2026 – The city of Hamburg is set to host its 837th Harbor Birthday from May 8 to 10, 2026, promising a spectacular array of events including ship parades, live music, fireworks, and the unique tugboat ballet. The annual festival, which draws both locals and tourists, will welcome over 160 vessels from around the globe.
Highlights of the 837th Harbor Birthday Program
The celebrations will kick off with the traditional Entry Parade on May 8 at 1:30 PM. Throughout the weekend, visitors can look forward to a diverse program:

Many ships will offer “Open Ship” tours, allowing visitors to explore them up close. The event also features a vibrant harbor mile with numerous food stalls offering a variety of culinary delights, open from 10 AM to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and until 9 PM on Sunday.
“Elbe in Concert” Features Renowned Artists
The “Elbe in Concert” series will bring musical performances to a floating stage in front of the Landungsbrücken. On Friday evening, reggae star Patrice Bart-Williams, the band Deine Freunde, and singer Christoph Sakwerda are scheduled to perform. Saturday evening will feature DJ and musician Topic, alongside newcomer Baumgart from Dortmund.
Over 160 Ships to Grace Hamburg’s Waters
More than 160 ships from around the world have confirmed their participation. Among the most impressive is the 333-meter-long cruise ship “MSC Preziosa,” expected at the Cruise Center Steinwerder on Sunday. Three research vessels will also be present: the “Atair” from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), used for wreck detection and available for viewing at the Landungsbrücken; the “Vektor” from the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics; and the “Coriolis” from the Helmholtz Center Hereon, dedicated to environmental research.
Historic tall ships will also be a major attraction, including the Norwegian three-masted barque “Statsraad Lehmkuhl,” one of the world’s largest sailing ships at 98 meters, which will be docked at the Landungsbrücken. The “Peking” will also be on display, with a shuttle service available from Landungsbrücken to Bremer Hafen (Hansakai) for access.
Liverpool City Region as International Partner
This year, the Liverpool City Region joins as the international partner, highlighting its rich cultural heritage as the home of two famous football clubs and the birthplace of The Beatles. This partnership aims to foster international friendship, cultural exchange, and shared future visions, bringing a vibrant British flair to the festivities.
