Munich, April 19 – The EHC Red Bull Munich hockey team concluded its German Ice Hockey League (DEL) season with a semifinal exit against Adler Mannheim, losing the series 4-1. Despite the defeat, head coach Oliver David expressed pride in his team’s performance and development throughout the season.

Coach David Praises Team’s Progress

Following the elimination, Coach David stated, “It was a wonderful season with many steps in the right direction. Many guys had their breakthrough and developed further. It just wasn’t enough to advance.” He emphasized the positive strides made by the team, which saw significant roster and coaching changes at the beginning of the season.

The team’s journey ended after a hard-fought series against Mannheim, where two of their losses came in overtime, highlighting the competitive nature of the matchups. “Games one and two were the turning point,” commented veteran player Patrick Hager, reflecting on the series.

Veteran Hager Remains Optimistic

Despite the disappointment, Hager, 37, also shared a forward-looking perspective. “If we look at the season from a distance, we managed a great turnaround compared to the past two years. We can build on that,” he said. However, he also admitted, “We don’t want to sugarcoat the situation. The quality was good enough to become champions this year.”

The EHC Red Bull Munich will now cede the championship pursuit to Mannheim and either Eisbären Berlin or Kölner Haie. Coach David, who joined Munich this season, reaffirmed the team’s commitment for the next season. “Half the team was new, the coaching staff was new, and we set a direction, and I think we did a good job,” he added.

Future Plans and Season Wrap-Up

In the coming weeks, the club plans to address open personnel questions as they prepare for the next season. The official season-ending celebration for the team is scheduled for April 25.

The team’s performance, marked by significant growth and a strong showing against top-tier competition, sets a hopeful precedent for future campaigns. The focus now shifts to strategic planning and team building to achieve their championship aspirations in the next season.
