Hamburg’s Outdoor Pool Season Kicks Off Early at Stadtparksee
Hamburg, May 1, 2026 – The outdoor swimming season in Hamburg has officially begun with the early opening of the Stadtparksee. The natural swimming area has been accessible to the public since Thursday, April 29, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Michael Dietel, spokesperson for Bäderland, noted that this marks the earliest start to the outdoor pool season since 2018.
According to staff, the water temperature at the surface of the natural pool is currently 18 degrees Celsius, while deeper areas measure 12 degrees Celsius. Despite the cooler temperatures in the deeper sections, the early opening has been welcomed by residents eager to enjoy the warmer weather.
Gradual Opening of Outdoor Pools Across Hamburg
Dietel confirmed in an interview with NDR 90.3 that other outdoor pools across Hamburg are expected to open gradually in the coming weeks. “The outdoor pools are now opening one after the other,” Dietel stated, indicating a phased approach to ensure all facilities are ready for the summer season.
Ticket prices for the 2026 season have remained largely consistent with previous years. A day ticket for children costs 1.10 Euros, while adolescents aged 12 to 16 pay 2.10 Euros. Adult admission is priced at 4.30 Euros, making outdoor swimming an affordable leisure activity for families and individuals.
Stadtparksee: A Popular Destination for Hamburg Residents
The Stadtparksee, located within the expansive Stadtpark, is a popular recreational spot for Hamburg residents. Its natural setting and diverse offerings, including swimming, sunbathing, and various water sports, make it a cherished urban oasis. The early opening provides an extended opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational facilities of the park.
The decision to open earlier than usual reflects a proactive approach by Bäderland to accommodate the public’s desire for outdoor activities as soon as weather permits. This initiative aims to maximize the usability of Hamburg’s public swimming facilities, contributing to the city’s vibrant outdoor culture.
Looking Ahead: A Full Outdoor Season
With the Stadtparksee leading the way, Hamburg anticipates a full and active outdoor swimming season. The gradual opening of additional pools will further expand options for residents, ensuring access to a variety of swimming environments across the city. Authorities encourage visitors to check local listings for specific opening dates and times of other outdoor pools.
The early start at Stadtparksee sets a positive tone for the summer, inviting residents to embrace outdoor recreation and enjoy the city’s natural and managed aquatic facilities. The consistent pricing and phased opening strategy aim to provide accessible and enjoyable experiences for all.
