Munich Airport-Regensburg Train Service Disrupted for a Week in May

Munich, Bavaria, Germany – Travelers commuting between Munich Airport and Regensburg will face significant disruptions and extended journey times from Monday, May 11, to Monday, May 18, as Deutsche Bahn (DB) carries out critical infrastructure maintenance work. The construction efforts will primarily impact regional train services, necessitating replacement bus services (Schienenersatzverkehr – SEV) on various sections of the route.

The disruptions are scheduled to occur daily between approximately 9 PM and 3 AM during the specified week. Several regional train lines, including RE2, RE22, RE25, and RB33, will be affected by these changes. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and anticipate longer travel durations.

Affected Routes and Replacement Services

The infrastructure work will impact numerous stations along the route. The affected stations include:

  • Munich Airport
  • Munich Airport Besucherpark
  • Freising
  • Marzling
  • Langenbach (Oberbayern)
  • Moosburg
  • Bruckberg
  • Gündlkofen
  • Landshut (Bay) Hauptbahnhof
  • Ergoldsbach
  • Neufahrn (Niederbayern)
  • Eggmühl
  • Hagelstadt
  • Köfering
  • Obertraubling
  • Regensburg-Burgweinting Hp
  • Regensburg Hauptbahnhof

To mitigate the impact on passengers, Deutsche Bahn has arranged replacement bus services on the following sections:

  • RE22: Replacement bus service between Freising, Marzling/Landshut, and Regensburg.
  • RE25: Replacement bus service between Schwandorf and Landshut.
  • RB33: Replacement bus service between Munich Airport Besucherpark and Freising.

DB has published a comprehensive overview of all replacement bus stops and updated timetables on its website. Passengers are reminded that, due to space constraints, it will not be possible to transport bicycles on the replacement buses.

Alternative Travel Options and Passenger Information

For travelers between Munich Main Station and Freising, the S1 and S8 S-Bahn lines are available as alternative transportation options. However, Deutsche Bahn cautions that short-notice changes to the schedule may occur. Therefore, passengers are strongly encouraged to check for the latest information on the DB website or through the DB app before commencing their journeys.

The construction work is essential for maintaining the railway infrastructure and ensuring the safety and efficiency of future train operations. While the disruptions may cause temporary inconvenience, they are a necessary part of ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the rail network.

This marks a period of significant travel adjustments for those relying on these key regional connections. Travelers are urged to utilize the provided resources from Deutsche Bahn to stay informed and minimize any potential delays to their travel plans.
