Berlin, May 12 – Berlin police have successfully identified a previously unknown deceased man who had been admitted to a Berlin clinic in late February and died in mid-March. The police had previously appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the individual.

Identity Confirmed by Sister

“A sister confirmed to the police today that the deceased is her 56-year-old brother,” the police announced on Monday. Further details regarding the background of the case were not disclosed.

Prior to the identification, police had released a photograph of the deceased and provided several key details to aid in the public appeal. The man was admitted to a Berlin clinic at the end of February this year and passed away in mid-March. The police had sought information from the public to help establish his identity.

“Ben’s” Tragic Story

The man had identified himself as “Ben” and claimed to be 63 years old. He had been living as a homeless person for several years in Berlin-Weißensee. Witnesses reported that “Ben” had shared a tragic life story, stating that he had lost his wife and children years ago in a traffic accident. He claimed the accident was caused by an intoxicated truck driver, possibly in the state of Brandenburg.

According to the witnesses, “Ben” also mentioned having two sisters, who might also reside in Brandenburg. These details were crucial in the police’s efforts to identify him.

Areas of Residence in Berlin

The deceased was known to frequent several areas in Berlin, including the Alter Friedhof Weißensee (Old Weißensee Cemetery), Bernkasteler Straße, Neumagener Straße, Falkenberger Straße, and Buschallee. These locations were highlighted by the police as places where members of the public might have encountered him.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

The Berlin police had initially published a photo of the man and sought the public’s help in identifying him. This appeal proved successful, leading to the confirmation of his identity. The case underscores the challenges faced by authorities in identifying individuals without immediate family or official documentation.

The successful identification of the deceased brings a conclusion to this particular police investigation, providing closure for the family involved.
