Hamburg Trial: Man Accused of Administering Fatal Drug Doses to Young Women
Hamburg, May 12 – The trial of a 21-year-old man from Altona began today at the Hamburg Regional Court. He stands accused of administering hard drugs to several young women, including teenagers, with one 21-year-old friend tragically losing her life as a result.
The accused, described as a healthy young man with an athletic build, has been in pre-trial detention for six months, forcing him into drug withdrawal after years of severe addiction. Prosecutors allege he is responsible for the death of a friend of the same age, to whom he is said to have injected a high dose of morphine, despite knowing she suffered from asthma. She subsequently died from respiratory depression.
Serious Charges: Manslaughter and Drug Administration with Fatal Outcome
The public prosecutor’s office has charged the 21-year-old with manslaughter in conjunction with administering narcotics with fatal consequences. Further charges include dangerous bodily harm in conjunction with the unauthorized administration of narcotics in nine cases, one of which also involves rape.
According to the indictment, he allegedly injected hard drugs, including heroin, into two 16-year-old girls at his apartment. In one instance, he is accused of raping a teenage girl who was barely conscious due to drug consumption. In the other case, he had to call an ambulance for a different teenage girl who collapsed after receiving drugs.
Following this incident, police searched his apartment in Altona, and he was taken into custody. The accused was 20 years old at the time of the alleged offenses, classifying him as a young adult under German law.
Defendant to Testify, Public Excluded for Testimony
The defendant has announced his intention to make a statement on Wednesday, May 13. However, the public will be excluded during this testimony. The court has scheduled 20 additional hearing dates, with the trial expected to conclude by September 21.
Drug-Related Deaths Remain High in Hamburg
This case highlights a concerning trend in Hamburg, where the number of drug-related deaths remains high. Last year, 100 people died from drug use in the Hanseatic city, with the average age of victims being 40.5 years in 2025.
In response to such issues, the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) offers outpatient rehabilitation for young people aged 14 to 27 struggling with addiction problems.
This ongoing trial underscores the severe consequences of drug abuse and the legal ramifications for those involved in illicit drug distribution and administration.
