Sauna Raft Fire on Müggelsee: Five Lightly Injured

Berlin, May 15, 2026 – Five individuals were lightly injured after a sauna raft caught fire on Müggelsee. The incident took place on Friday afternoon when approximately five square meters of the roof structure of the two-story raft were ablaze. The raft was located near the Spreetunnel in Friedrichshagen at the time of the fire, as reported by the fire department.

Swift Response by Firefighters

The persons on board the raft were safely evacuated by the owner’s boat before the fire department arrived. Firefighters then reached the burning raft using a multi-purpose boat from the Köpenick fire station and a rescue boat from the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund. They successfully brought the fire under control.

After the blaze was extinguished, the sauna boat was towed ashore. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and investigations are expected to follow.

This incident highlights the importance of safety measures on watercraft, especially those equipped with heating elements like saunas. Fortunately, due to the quick actions of the owner and the rapid response of the fire department, more serious injuries were avoided.
