Police Crack Down on Youth Gang in Lohbrügge After String of Robberies
Hamburg, May 27 – Hamburg police have successfully apprehended a nine-member youth gang from Lohbrügge, suspected of orchestrating a series of robberies by luring their victims through deceptive contact advertisements on social media. The arrests follow a detailed investigation into at least five reported incidents where victims were ambushed, assaulted, and robbed after arranging meetings in eastern Hamburg.
The alleged perpetrators, aged between 15 and 17 years old, reportedly posed as a young woman named Yasmin to arrange meetings with unsuspecting men. Upon arrival, the victims were then reportedly attacked and robbed. The total amount of cash stolen in these incidents is estimated to be 2,350 Euros.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
Police raids were conducted last Friday, May 22, targeting the residences of the suspected teenagers. As a result, two 17-year-olds have been taken into investigative custody, with arrest warrants issued by a magistrate. Five other members of the gang were released after undergoing identification procedures, which included fingerprinting and photographic documentation.
The operation highlights a growing concern regarding online deception used to facilitate real-world crimes. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when arranging meetings with individuals met through social media platforms, especially when personal details or financial transactions are involved.
Investigation Continues
While significant progress has been made with the arrests, the investigation is ongoing. Police are working to determine the full extent of the gang’s activities and whether there are more victims who have not yet come forward. The focus remains on gathering further evidence and ensuring that all individuals involved are brought to justice.
The swift action by the Hamburg police aims to reassure the community and deter similar criminal activities. Further details regarding the charges and upcoming legal proceedings are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
