Munich, June 4 – Approximately four months after a fatal assault in Munich’s Old Town, a second suspect has been apprehended in North Rhine-Westphalia. The 23-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in the Aachen region, as announced by Munich police on Thursday. He was scheduled to appear before a magistrate for a remand hearing. This arrest follows the apprehension of a 21-year-old man in North Rhine-Westphalia back in February.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 31, 2026, on a street in Munich’s city center. According to police reports, the 21-year-old suspect allegedly struck the 45-year-old victim in the head with his fist without provocation, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head. The recently arrested 23-year-old suspect is then alleged to have kicked the victim in the head while he was on the ground.

Following the assault, both young men fled the scene. The 45-year-old victim was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later. It is understood that the victim had previously been with an acquaintance in the same pub as the alleged perpetrators.

Ongoing Investigation and Previous Arrest

The initial arrest of the 21-year-old suspect in February marked a significant step in the investigation. The police have been working to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the fatal assault. The recent arrest of the 23-year-old in the Aachen region indicates further progress in the case.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the relationship between the suspects or any potential motives for the assault. The investigation is ongoing, and both suspects are facing serious charges in connection with the man’s death.

The incident has highlighted concerns about public safety in Munich’s city center, although police have emphasized that such violent incidents remain rare.

Legal Proceedings Ahead

The 23-year-old suspect will be brought before a magistrate to determine if he will be held in pre-trial detention. Similarly, the 21-year-old suspect arrested in February has been undergoing legal proceedings. The judicial process will aim to establish the full extent of each individual’s involvement and responsibility in the tragic event.

Further updates from the Munich police are expected as the investigation progresses and more details become available. The case continues to draw public attention as the community awaits justice for the victim.
