Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Berlin-Pankow Accident; Rescue Helicopter Deployed

Berlin, June 7 – A 60-year-old motorcyclist was severely injured in a collision with a car on Saturday in Berlin-Pankow. The accident, which occurred around 11:00 AM on Berliner Straße, involved an attempted overtake using a special lane designated for buses and trams. The motorcyclist sustained critical leg injuries and was airlifted to a hospital by a rescue helicopter.

Accident Details on Berliner Straße

According to police reports, the 60-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on Berliner Straße in the direction of Breite Straße. He attempted to overtake a car, driven by a 24-year-old, that was moving in the same direction. The overtake was executed using the special lane reserved for buses and trams. Upon attempting to merge back into the right lane, the motorcycle collided with the waiting car.

The impact resulted in severe injuries to the motorcyclist’s leg. Initial reports from “B.Z.” indicated that the leg may have been severed. First responders provided immediate care at the scene before the victim was transported by rescue helicopter to a hospital for urgent medical attention. The 24-year-old car driver also sustained head injuries in the collision.

Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation

Following the accident, Berliner Straße was completely closed in both directions between Florastraße and Breite Straße from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM to facilitate rescue operations and accident investigation. A specialized unit for traffic offenses from Police Directorate 1 (North) has taken over the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.

Recent Motorcycle Accidents in Berlin

This incident marks another serious motorcycle accident in Berlin this week. Just on Thursday afternoon, a 56-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in Wedding (Mitte). In that incident, a 42-year-old truck driver changed lanes on Seestraße, overlooking the motorcyclist next to him. The motorcyclist was dragged along and collided with three parked vehicles. He suffered multiple, open fractures to one lower leg and a partial avulsion of the other lower leg, requiring hospitalization.

These recent events highlight the critical importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations, particularly when operating motorcycles and other vehicles in busy urban environments.
