Berlin, June 17, 2026 – Professor Gwendolyn Sasse, the esteemed Director of the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) and an Einstein Professor, has been formally elected as an Ordinary Member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The announcement was made following the Academy’s meeting on Leibniz Day, June 13, 2026, where 10 distinguished researchers were welcomed into its ranks.
Recognition of Outstanding Achievements in Research
The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, a revered institution with a 325-year history dating back to the Prussian Academy of Sciences, selects its members based on outstanding academic achievement. Professor Sasse’s election into the Political Science category underscores her significant contributions to the field.
Expressing her gratitude, Professor Sasse stated, “I am greatly honoured to be awarded membership of the Academy. This will spur me on in my further work at ZOiS, at Humboldt-Universität and in the Academy’s formats.”
Theoria cum praxi: Bridging Theory and Practice
Professor Sasse emphasized the Academy’s commitment to the principle of ‘Theoria cum praxi’ – theory with practice – a philosophy championed by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
