Hamburg, June 19 – The 11th Hamburg Foundation Days, under the motto “Your good cause is here,” officially commenced on Friday, June 19, 2026. Running until June 28, the event sees over 160 foundations providing insights into their work and hosting more than 350 events and activities across the city.
Festival on Rathausmarkt Highlights Democracy and Community
A central highlight of the Foundation Days is a major festival scheduled for Saturday, June 20, on the Rathausmarkt. This event will feature what is being dubbed “Hamburg’s Longest Table for Democracy, Diversity, and Cohesion,” stretching an impressive 400 meters. More than 150 foundations, associations, and initiatives are participating, inviting Hamburg residents to join from 12:00 PM onwards to chat, discuss, play, and dance. Each table will offer a different activity or focus, fostering engagement and community spirit.
In conjunction with the festival, a large-scale donation drive is planned, organized by Hanseatic Help, the Hamburger Tafel, and the “Der Hafen hilft!” association. The initiative welcomes donations of food, clothing, and other items that can assist people in need, underscoring the charitable focus of the Foundation Days.
Diverse Program with Over 350 Events
Beyond the Rathausmarkt festival, the Hamburg Foundation Days boast a comprehensive program of over 350 individual events. These include a wide array of activities such as workshops, concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, and even a “Picnic against Loneliness” in the picturesque Planten un Blomen park. The diverse offerings aim to allow interested individuals to learn about the organizations’ work, establish contacts, and discover opportunities for personal involvement. Many events are free of charge, though some with limited capacities require prior registration.
Foundations Launch Mastodon Social Media Platform
In a notable development, the participating foundations have collectively launched their own social media platform on Mastodon. This move is designed to reduce their reliance on larger, more commercial social media networks like Instagram or TikTok, aiming for greater independence and control over their digital communication channels.
The Hamburg Foundation Days represent a significant annual event for the city’s charitable sector, providing a platform for foundations to connect with the public, showcase their impact, and encourage civic engagement. The focus on democracy, diversity, and cohesion, combined with practical charitable initiatives, underscores the event’s commitment to strengthening the social fabric of Hamburg.
