Munich’s Culinary Scene on Edge as Michelin Stars Announced Today

Frankfurt, June 23 – The culinary world is abuzz as the prestigious Michelin Guide awards ceremony is set to take place today, Tuesday, June 23, at the Gesellschaftshaus am Palmengarten in Frankfurt. Restaurants from across Germany will be honored, with particular attention focused on which establishments in Munich will receive or retain the coveted Michelin stars.

Michelin stars are considered the highest accolade in the restaurant industry, akin to a knighthood for chefs. For many in Munich, the key question will be which local restaurateurs will be celebrated and which might face the disappointment of losing a star.

Current Michelin Landscape in Munich

As of the latest assessment, Munich boasts a vibrant fine dining scene with a significant number of Michelin-starred establishments:

  • Three Stars: 2 restaurants
  • Two Stars: 4 restaurants
  • One Star: 11 restaurants

Among the restaurants currently holding stars are:

  • Tohru in der Schreiberei (three stars)
  • Jan (three stars)
  • Atelier (two stars)
  • Tantris (two stars)
  • Alois – Dallmayr Fine Dining (two stars)
  • Komu (two stars)
  • Showroom (one star)
  • Gabelspiel (one star)
  • Sparkling Bistro (one star)
  • Werneckhof Sigi Schelling (one star)

Restaurants Under New Leadership Face First Verdict

Two restaurants, in particular, are awaiting the announcement with heightened anticipation due to recent changes in their kitchens:

  1. Restaurant Atelier at Bayerischer Hof: Previously awarded two stars, the Atelier saw Anton Gschwendtner depart unexpectedly in February. His successor, 33-year-old Kevin Romes, took over on April 1. This will be Romes’ first assessment by the Michelin Guide in his new role.
  2. The Cloud at BMW Welt: This establishment will face the Michelin Guide’s judgment for the first time, adding to the suspense surrounding the new accolades.

Beyond the Stars: Special Awards and Recognitions

In addition to the traditional star ratings, the Michelin Guide ceremony will also feature several “Special Awards” to honor outstanding individual achievements and new ventures. These awards recognize excellence in categories such as Sommelier, Service, and Young Chef. Furthermore, the best new opening of the year will also be celebrated.

The awards ceremony is expected to conclude later this evening, with full results for Munich’s restaurants to be announced shortly thereafter. The results will undoubtedly shape the culinary landscape of the city for the coming year, influencing diners and chefs alike.
