Potsdam (dpa/bb) – Due to the ongoing heatwave, the Potsdam city administration has asked citizens to keep a watchful eye on homeless people. “Anyone who encounters a homeless and unresponsive person should not hesitate to notify the emergency services,” the city stated in a press release.
Support for the Homeless During the Heatwave
Homeless individuals have the option to cool down at the Volkssolidarität soup kitchen. “A shower is available here, laundry can be washed, and water bottles can be refilled.” Street social workers are also active throughout the city, distributing water bottles, sunscreen, and head coverings.
Temperatures Expected to Soar
Temperatures are predicted to climb above 40 degrees Celsius over the weekend. This extreme heat poses significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the homeless, who often lack access to shelter and hydration.
City’s Call for Community Action
The city’s appeal highlights the importance of community support and vigilance during such critical weather events. Residents are encouraged to be proactive in identifying and assisting those who are most at risk.
Emergency Services and Social Workers on Alert
Emergency services are prepared to respond to calls concerning individuals affected by the heat. Additionally, street social workers continue their efforts to provide immediate relief and essential items to homeless people in various parts of the city.
