Munich Sports Festival: Königsplatz Becomes a Giant Playground
Munich, Bavaria, Germany – On July 5, 2026, the 15th Munich Sports Festival will take over Königsplatz, offering a diverse array of athletic activities and interactive experiences. From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, attendees are invited to discover and participate in a wide range of trend sports, as well as unusual fun and fringe sports, all free of charge.
A Plethora of Sports: Königsplatz Transformed
The festival aims to introduce visitors to various sports, providing all necessary equipment at no cost. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, including athletes with physical disabilities, can easily try out new activities. Featured sports include Pickleball, Disc Golf, a high ropes course, Skimboarding, Cricket, Headis (head-tennis), and historical martial arts.
Key highlights of this popular event, organized by the Department of Education and Sport, include Germany’s largest Ninja competition, “Minga Warrior,” and the Trickline Worldcup, showcasing spectacular tricks and jumps on a five-centimeter-wide line. The Street Floorball Tour, the Munich Streetsoccer Cup, and a Breakdance Battle will also be central attractions.
Munich Streetsoccer Cup and Inclusivity
The Streetsoccer Cup, organized by the Bavarian Football Association, features teams competing in three distinct categories. In the morning, boys’ or mixed teams born in 2016 will play “four against four.” At midday, inclusion teams born in 2011 and younger will compete, followed by girls’ teams born in 2013 and 2014 in the afternoon. The festival emphasizes inclusivity, with athletes with physical disabilities being particularly welcome participants.
Approximately 50 sports providers are listed for the 15th Munich Sports Festival, and organizers anticipate tens of thousands of visitors. Further information about the festival can be found at www.sportfestival.de and on the Instagram page @muenchner_sportfestivals.
Meet and Greet with Olympic Stars
At the City of Munich’s Olympic stand, a special meet and greet session with Olympians will take place at midday. This offers a unique opportunity for conversations, photos, and personal encounters, especially for children and young people. The festival’s five ambassadors underscore the potential impact of these interactions: Verena Bentele (12-time Paralympics winner), Christina Hering (athletics 400 & 800 m), Natalie Geisenberger (six-time Olympic luge champion), Magdalena Matschina (gold and silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics in luge), and Dajana Eitberger (gold and silver at the 2026 Winter Olympics and silver in 2018 in luge). Natalie Geisenberger, a six-time Olympic champion, will be among the four Olympians present at the festival.
Free Health Checks and Accessibility Services
This year, a special service is being offered: free heart checks by Cardisio. Festival visitors can undergo a Cardisiography, a precise 3D heart check with AI analysis for early detection of potential heart diseases. These analyses will be available from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though the number of appointments is limited. Most slots can be booked online starting Wednesday, July 1, at 7:00 PM, via cardiocheckup.health/muenchen. A small contingent of appointments will also be available on-site for spontaneous visitors.
For the first time, the Munich Sports Festival will also provide a free wheelchair and rollator check. Visitors can have their mobility aids inspected for safety, including brakes, tires, tire pressure, and footrests, without prior registration. Adjustments will be made directly on-site if needed, ensuring that mobility aids are safe for use.
The Munich Sports Festival promises to be a vibrant and engaging event, promoting sports and an active lifestyle for all ages and abilities.
