AIDA Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Grand Ship Parade in Hamburg Port

Hamburg, June 7, 2026 – Cruise line AIDA is celebrating its 30th anniversary today with a spectacular ship parade in Hamburg Port. Around 8:00 PM, three massive cruise ships are scheduled to position themselves in front of the Landungsbrücken, accompanied by a colorful display.

Months of Preparation for the Elbe Show

The cruise line, the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), and the pilots have been preparing for months for this evening’s show on the Elbe. Maneuvers were repeatedly practiced in the simulator. The “AIDAprima” is returning directly to Hamburg from a voyage and will turn in front of the Elbphilharmonie. Two other ships, the “AIDAperla” and the “AIDAsol,” are already in Hamburg. They will reverse out of their respective berths and position themselves in front of the Landungsbrücken, entirely without tugboat assistance. The three cruise ships will then remain at a mere 120-meter distance from each other, while four tugboats – similar to those at the Port Anniversary – will perform a show.

AIDA: Market Leader in Germany

The first AIDA ship was commissioned exactly 30 years ago. Today, the company operates a total of eleven cruise ships and is the market leader in Germany. In Hamburg, the company is responsible for approximately 120 calls per year and also operates its nautical center here, which supports ships worldwide with, for example, route planning.

The First AIDA Kiss Marks 1996

It was the largest German passenger ship at the time: With the christening of the “AIDA” on June 7, 1996, a success story began for the Rostock-based shipping company.

Background: Booking Cruises and Environmental Impact

When booking a cruise, travelers should carefully check the fare options to avoid unexpected additional costs. Cruises are popular, but what impact do they have on the environment and climate? How can the impact be reduced?
