Patient Killed in Berlin Psychiatric Hospital
Berlin, July 6, 2026 – A patient has reportedly been killed by another patient in the psychiatric ward of a Berlin hospital. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at approximately 11:10 PM, following an altercation between two men for reasons yet unknown, police reported.
Details of the Incident
The 26-year-old man allegedly fatally injured the 65-year-old man in the upper body with an unknown object. The suspected perpetrator has been arrested. According to Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln, the suspect had only been admitted on Sunday with a diagnosis of psychosis.
A spokesperson for Vivantes suggested that the crime might have been committed with a broken cup found at the scene. “There was no weapon,” he stated, emphasizing that admitted patients are searched for their own and others’ safety.
Hospital Staff in Shock
The hospital staff are reportedly in shock and are receiving psychological support, the Vivantes spokesperson added. A resuscitation team that was immediately on site could not save the victim.
The 5th Homicide Commission of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is investigating the case on suspicion of a homicide. Incidents like this, where one patient kills another in a psychiatric clinic, are extremely rare.
Three years ago, an incident occurred in the addiction ward of the Jewish Hospital Berlin, where a patient with a knife in hand went on a rampage. Police officers stopped the 45-year-old man in April 2023 with two shots, injuring him in the leg.
