Peter Inselkammer Unanimously Elected President of IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria
Munich, July 8, 2026 – The General Assembly of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria today unanimously elected Peter Inselkammer (56), a Munich hotelier and restaurateur, as its new President during its constitutive meeting. Inselkammer will also simultaneously assume the presidency of the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BIHK).
A Seasoned Leader Takes the Helm
Peter Inselkammer had previously served as interim IHK President after his predecessor, Klaus Josef Lutz, resigned in January 2026. The position of BIHK President had remained vacant during this period.
Inselkammer has been a member of the General Assembly of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria since 2011 and a member of the IHK Presidium since 2021. From 2021 to 2026, he chaired the IHK Regional Committee for the State Capital Munich. From 2019 to 2021, he also served as Chairman of the IHK Tourism Committee.
Born in Bad Tölz, Peter Inselkammer completed an apprenticeship as a hotel manager and studied business administration in Regensburg. In 1999, he took over as personally liable partner in the Munich family business Platzl Hotel Inselkammer KG and later also assumed the role of proprietor of the Armbrustschützenzelt at the Oktoberfest.
Inselkammer’s Vision: A Unified Voice for Businesses
Following his election, Inselkammer stated: “I sincerely thank all members of the General Assembly for their trust. The sustainable development of the Upper Bavarian economic region, one of Europe’s strongest economic regions, and representing the interests of our companies is a personal matter close to my heart. From my own experience, I know the challenges that small and medium-sized businesses face. Here, I see the IHK’s responsibility to give all businesses a common voice, as they are heard and considered far too little, even though they are the backbone of our economy and society. I want to advocate for more entrepreneurship, less bureaucracy, and fewer naysayers. I want to stand for confidence and innovation, because that is the basis for a successful future for our businesses.”
Peter Inselkammer was the sole candidate for the IHK President’s office. He received 86 ‘yes’ votes, with 2 abstentions and no ‘no’ votes.
Election of the IHK Presidium
The IHK General Assembly also elected the IHK Presidium, which consists of a total of twelve individuals – six Vice Presidents and six Vice Presidents. The IHK General Assembly confirmed the spokesperson and deputy spokesperson of the regional committees, who were previously elected by the 20 IHK regional committee chairpersons, as IHK Vice Presidents:
- Franz Schabmüller jun., Managing Partner of the mechanical engineering and automotive supplier Framos Holding, Ingolstadt
- Sonja Ziegltrum, Managing Director at the flower and decoration wholesale Bayerische Blumenzentrale, Parsdorf (Ebersberg district)
The following were directly elected to the IHK Presidium by the IHK General Assembly from among its members:

2026 IHK Election Concluded
During the IHK election earlier this spring, over 400,000 IHK member companies across Upper Bavaria were called upon to elect their representatives to the IHK General Assembly and the 20 regional committees. The IHK election takes place every five years. The statutory task of the IHK is to represent the overall interests of the businesses in its region, to promote the commercial economy, and to fulfill over 90 public tasks currently delegated by the state.
For the honorary work in the elected IHK bodies, there is no remuneration, expense allowance, or reimbursement of costs.
The Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BIHK) represents approximately one million IHK member companies as the umbrella organization of the nine IHKs in Bavaria. This makes it the largest business organization in the Free State. According to the BIHK statutes, the presidency of the BIHK is exercised in personal union by the President of the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria.
