Berlin, July 19 – Berlin police detained five individuals following an incident in Spandau where plainclothes officers and a civilian were threatened with a weapon. The suspects, three men aged 20 and 18 (twice), a 24-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old female, were stopped after a pursuit.
Threat Against Plainclothes Officers Initiates Pursuit
The incident began around 1:40 AM when plainclothes police officers, driving an unmarked vehicle on Charlottenburger Chaussee, were overtaken by another car. The driver of the overtaking vehicle pointed a weapon at the officer in the passenger seat of the police car. The officers immediately ducked and slowed down their vehicle, subsequently alerting backup and initiating a pursuit.
During the pursuit, the officers observed the same vehicle threatening another unidentified person with the weapon on Charlottenburger Chaussee, near the police premises. The weapon was reportedly held out of the car window.
Vehicle Stopped, Toy Weapons Discovered
Officers from Section 22 eventually stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Ruhlebener Straße and Klosterstraße. With service weapons drawn, all occupants were instructed to exit the vehicle and lie on the ground, which they complied with.
A search of the vehicle revealed three toy weapons, which were confiscated. Additionally, the driving license of the 20-year-old driver and his BMW car were seized.
Further Investigations Underway
The two male suspects, aged 20 and 18, were taken into police custody for identification procedures and later released. The other three occupants were released at the scene. The Berlin police have stated that further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
