Munich, August 4 – Munich Airport has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first airport in Germany to be awarded Level 1 of the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) Program. This prestigious certification, granted by ACI World, the global umbrella organization for airport operators, acknowledges airports that exhibit a profound commitment to making travel accessible for all passengers.
A Global Standard for Barrier-Free Travel
According to ACI’s website, the AEA Program stands as the sole international assessment and accreditation initiative specifically dedicated to airport accessibility for passengers with disabilities. ACI emphasizes that access to transportation is a fundamental right for all individuals, yet many still encounter considerable challenges when utilizing air travel services due to disabilities or reduced mobility.
The program is designed to assist airports in evaluating and enhancing their accessibility management and culture, ensuring continuous improvement in this vital area.
Comprehensive Criteria for Accreditation
Munich Airport’s accreditation was based on an evaluation of various criteria, including:
