Suspect Apprehended After Pedelec Theft in Solln, Munich
Munich, August 5 – A 56-year-old man of Albanian nationality was arrested yesterday evening in the Solln district of Munich following the theft of a pedelec. The bicycle, equipped with a tracking system, allowed its owner to pinpoint its location, leading to the suspect’s apprehension. The incident unfolded on Monday, August 3, 2026.
The Theft and Rapid Response
On Monday morning, around 9:30 AM, a 35-year-old Munich resident discovered his pedelec had been stolen. He had parked and locked the bicycle outdoors on Sentilostraße the previous day. Fortunately, the pedelec was fitted with a tracking system, enabling the owner to locate it on Dönnigestraße, where it was found secured to a tree with an unfamiliar bicycle lock. The owner immediately notified emergency services.
Police Intervention and Arrest
Police initiated immediate measures. Around 7:30 PM, officers observed a 56-year-old man attempting to unlock the pedelec. As he tried to ride away on the bicycle, police intervened. After a brief pursuit, the 56-year-old was temporarily apprehended. During the arrest, the suspect fell to the ground, sustaining a superficial injury to his forehead.
Evidence of Commercial Activity Uncovered
Further investigations led to a search of the 56-year-old’s residence. During the search, evidence was discovered that suggested commercial dealing in stolen goods. Additionally, a significant four-figure sum of cash found at the premises was seized as part of asset forfeiture proceedings.
Legal Proceedings and Release
The 56-year-old has been charged with aggravated theft. Following the completion of police procedures and identification, he was subsequently released. The stolen pedelec was returned to its rightful owner. Kommissariat 53 has taken over further investigations into the case.
