Berlin, August 25, 2026 – The French video game company Ubisoft is moving into the House of Games in Berlin-Friedrichshain as its first anchor tenant. This was announced by Wista Management GmbH, the operator of the facility. The lease agreement is expected to be signed on Wednesday at the Gamescom computer and video game fair in Cologne. Ubisoft is renowned for popular titles such as ‘Assassin’s Creed’.
Berlin’s Economy Senator Welcomes Ubisoft’s Move
Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Franziska Giffey (SPD), stated, “The House of Games Berlin will become home to the growing games industry in the capital. With Ubisoft Berlin as the first anchor tenant, we have taken a decisive step forward.” She emphasized that Berlin has long been Germany’s gaming capital and a leading location for the industry in Europe, boasting approximately 3,300 employees, making it the largest games job market among German federal states.
A Unique Hub for Innovation and Collaboration
Benedikt Grindel, Managing Director of Ubisoft’s German studios, highlighted that the House of Games will create a unique space for the gaming industry. “The close networking of developers, start-ups, and institutions creates ideal conditions for collaboration, innovation, and creative exchange,” Grindel said. Ubisoft Berlin plans to develop games across two floors within the new facility.
House of Games Opening Delayed, but Anticipation Remains High
The opening of the House of Games, initially announced for the beginning of the year, has been postponed to the second half of the year. A precise opening date has not yet been disclosed. The brick building on Rotherstrasse, located near Warschauer Brücke, is designed to be a central hub for the gaming industry. It will offer over 10,000 square meters of space across five floors, including office and event areas.
Significant Investment and Historical Location
The project is supported by the Senate with 4.6 million Euros. The LUX building complex has a rich history; these four industrial buildings, constructed between 1906 and 1914, are also known as Lampenstadt, where lighting products were manufactured for approximately eight decades.
The move of Ubisoft is expected to further solidify Berlin’s reputation as a dynamic center for technology and creativity, particularly in the rapidly expanding video game sector. The House of Games aims to foster a collaborative environment, attracting more talent and investment to the city’s burgeoning gaming scene.
This development is seen as a strategic move to enhance Berlin’s competitive edge in the global gaming market, providing a dedicated space where innovation can thrive and new gaming experiences can be crafted. The presence of a major player like Ubisoft is anticipated to draw smaller studios and start-ups, creating a vibrant ecosystem for game development.
The delay in opening has not dampened enthusiasm, as stakeholders believe the long-term benefits of a centralized gaming hub will outweigh the initial setbacks. The project underscores Berlin’s commitment to supporting high-tech industries and fostering a creative economy.
