Berlin, September 9, 2026 – Students in Berlin are set to receive a new, unified student ID card that will also function as a free public transport ticket. This initiative, announced by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, aims to streamline the process for all involved parties.

The new ID cards will be centrally produced and distributed directly to schools by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). Alongside the physical card, an accompanying app for a digital student ID is also planned for future release.
