Unsecured Building Ruin in Rahlstedt Causes Concern in Hamburg
Hamburg, September 13, 2026 – An unsecured building ruin in the Rahlstedt district of Hamburg, a neglected property, and an absent owner are raising serious safety concerns for the Wandsbek district assembly. The assembly has now resolved to identify the owner and demand immediate action.
For five years, no progress has been made on the unfinished, multi-story building located on Liliencronstraße in Hamburg’s Rahlstedt district. Residents report that children are playing in the ruin because the site is not secured. This situation is deemed unacceptable by members of the Rahlstedt district assembly. Claudia Folkers of the CDU expressed her worry that a child could fall five meters through a window opening.
Search for the Owner Initiated
Folkers also highlighted another problem: the owner’s identity remains unknown. The district office is tasked with locating the owner and instructing them to secure the premises, according to the latest resolution by the district assembly. Should the owner fail to comply, the district office will be responsible for repairing the construction fence and clearing the overgrown sidewalk. Additionally, the office will investigate legal avenues to facilitate the continuation of construction or the demolition of the building.
Owner Obligated to Secure Property
A similar situation arose last year with the ‘Alte Lackfabrik’ (Old Paint Factory) in Rahlstedt. Following a fire, the former owners abandoned the building at the end of 2025, rendering it derelict. Despite this, they remained legally obligated to secure the property and demolish unsafe sections.
In July, the Senate confirmed, in response to an inquiry from the CDU, that demolition work had been carried out “down to the foundation slab,” and the immediate danger posed by the ruin had been eliminated.

The factory ruin in eastern Hamburg was slated for demolition after a fire. However, the former owners repeatedly missed deadlines. This previous incident underscores the urgency of the current situation in Liliencronstraße.
