HAW Hamburg Lays Foundation for New Energy Transition Research Center
Hamburg, September 14 – The Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg (HAW Hamburg) laid the foundation stone on Monday for a new research center on its Bergedorf Energy Campus. The “Demonstration Center for Sector Coupling” aims to develop innovative solutions for the energy transition, with an anticipated completion date in 2028.
The new facility, located in Bergedorf, will serve as a hub for collaborative research between HAW Hamburg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems. Together with various companies, researchers will test and develop new technologies essential for achieving a climate-neutral energy system.
Focus on Collaborative Research and Public Engagement
The center is designed to house six laboratories and provide workplaces for approximately 50 individuals. A dedicated showroom will also be integrated into the facility, allowing the public to experience and understand the research outcomes firsthand, fostering greater engagement with energy transition initiatives.
The total cost of the new construction is estimated at 21.5 million Euros. The European Union has contributed nearly 6 million Euros towards the project’s financing, underscoring its significance for regional and European sustainability goals.
