New Moxy Hotel to Boost Munich’s Southern Hospitality Scene
Munich, September 30 – Arabella Hospitality SE is expanding its Munich hotel portfolio with the upcoming Moxy Munich South in Obersendling. This new 164-room hotel, part of ‘The Source’ urban quarter, is slated for completion in the second half of 2028. The project marks Arabella Hospitality’s first foray into the southern part of the Bavarian capital.
The Moxy Munich South will be positioned in the upper-midscale segment and is strategically located in Obersendling, offering excellent connectivity to Munich’s city center via the U3 and U6 subway lines and the Siemenswerke S-Bahn station. This area has historically seen fewer international hotel brands, making this a significant development for the region.
Strategic Location and Market Opportunity
Arabella Hospitality sees additional demand potential due to the hotel’s proximity to Thalkirchen, known for its recreational offerings, and the Bavaria Filmstudios in Geiselgasteig. Karl-Heinz Pawlizki, CEO of Arabella Hospitality, stated, “The south of Munich is a logical next step for us. With the Moxy Munich South, we are closing a gap in the market, as a modern midscale hotel has been missing in this location.”

‘The Source’ Urban Quarter: A Multifaceted Development
The Moxy hotel will be situated in the south building of ‘The Source’, a versatile urban quarter spanning approximately 54,700 square meters of gross floor area on a 15,564 square meter plot. Alongside the hotel, the quarter will feature office spaces, boarding apartments, and gastronomy options.
The centerpiece of the development is the historic Siemens high-rise, a listed building constructed between 1961 and 1963 by architect Hans Maurer, which was once Munich’s tallest office building. The ensemble will be complemented by two new buildings and an underground car park with 370 parking spaces. The building permit phase for the hotel is currently underway.
Arabella Hospitality’s Growing Presence in Munich
With the Moxy Munich South, Arabella Hospitality will expand its Munich portfolio to six hotels. Its existing properties include the Residence Inn by Marriott Munich Central, the Four Points by Sheraton Munich Arabellapark, the Aloft by Marriott Munich, The Westin Grand Munich, and the Rosewood Munich. This expansion brings the company’s total portfolio across the DACH region and Mallorca to 19 hotels.
The project underscores Arabella Hospitality’s focus on a Munich submarket that has been less dominated by international hotel brands. The Moxy Munich South will integrate into a mixed-use quarter designed to combine accommodation, work, living, and dining experiences, contributing to a vibrant new urban hub in Obersendling.
