The Story of WhySoGermany

WhySoGermany was born in a cozy Berlin café in November 2022, during one of those long German winter afternoons that seem to stretch forever. Henrik Müller, a Hamburg native working in cultural consulting, was having coffee with Emma Rodriguez, a Spanish-American linguist who had recently moved to Munich. Their conversation centered around a mutual frustration: the internet was full of either outdated German stereotypes or dry, academic cultural information that missed the vibrant reality of modern Germany.

“Why is it so hard to find authentic German content that isn’t about beer and lederhosen?” Emma asked, stirring her Heisse Schokolade.

Henrik laughed, “Because most people writing about Germany either don’t live here or only scratch the surface. There’s so much more to discover.”

That moment sparked an idea. What if they created a platform that showcased the real Germany – the one they lived and breathed every day?

Mission & Values: WhySoGermany believes that authentic cultural understanding happens through genuine storytelling, not stereotypes. They’re committed to showcasing Germany’s regional diversity, modern evolution, and the beautiful complexity that makes it impossible to answer “What is Germany like?” in just one sentence. Their goal is to be the bridge between Germany and the world, one authentic story at a time.
