Munich, December 22 – A 19-year-old man sustained serious injuries after falling onto the tracks at the Stiglmaierplatz U-Bahn station. The incident occurred on Friday, December 19, 2025, at approximately 4:20 AM, as a U1 line train was entering the station.

Incident Details at Stiglmaierplatz

According to current police investigations, the 19-year-old, a resident of Munich and a German national, apparently lost his balance and fell onto the tracks without external involvement. At the same moment, a U1 line train was approaching the station. The train driver, upon noticing the person on the tracks, immediately initiated an emergency brake.

Despite the swift action, the 19-year-old was caught by the incoming train. However, a safety bar on the vehicle prevented him from being run over, pushing him along the tracks instead. This critical safety feature averted a potentially fatal outcome.

Emergency Response and Rescue Operation

The police emergency hotline 110 was informed by the MVG control center, and multiple police patrols along with units from the Munich fire department were immediately dispatched to the scene. Firefighters successfully rescued the injured man from the tracks.

The 19-year-old was then transported by emergency medical services to a hospital for further inpatient treatment due to the serious nature of his injuries. His current condition has not been released to the public.

Investigation Underway

The Munich traffic police have taken over the ongoing investigation into the incident, focusing on potential dangerous interference with rail traffic. As part of the investigation, surveillance footage from the platform has been secured and is currently being evaluated.

Authorities have not yet released any further details regarding the exact circumstances leading to the fall, but preliminary findings suggest it was an isolated incident of losing balance. The investigation aims to determine all factors contributing to the event.

The incident caused temporary disruptions to U-Bahn services on the U1 line in the early morning hours, but normal operations have since resumed. The quick response of the train driver and emergency services was crucial in managing the situation and preventing more severe consequences.

This event highlights the importance of vigilance and safety measures in public transport areas, especially on platforms. Authorities continue to remind passengers to maintain a safe distance from the platform edge and to be aware of their surroundings at all times.
