Hamburg, February 3, 2026 – From February 6 to 8, 2026, 46 hotels across Hamburg will participate in the highly anticipated ‘Open Hotel Days’. This initiative invites residents to discover the city’s diverse hotel landscape through exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses, engaging events, culinary delights, and direct interactions with hotel staff.
A Unique Opportunity to Explore Hamburg’s Hospitality
The ‘Open Hotel Days’ aim to showcase the hospitality industry’s vital role in Hamburg’s economic and social fabric. Renowned establishments such as The Fontenay, The Westin Elbphilharmonie, Hotel Atlantic, and Pierdrei Hotel in HafenCity are among the participating venues. The majority of the program’s offerings will be free of charge, making it accessible to a wide audience.
Professor Norbert Aust, President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and co-shareholder of Pierdrei Hotel HafenCity Hamburg, emphasized the significance of the event: “Hardly any industry embodies Hamburg’s openness as consistently as tourism. Here, diversity, integration, and active participation are not just emphasized – they happen every single day. That is precisely why tourism actively shapes the future of our city.”
Aust added, “The ‘Open Hotel Days’ make this strength visible and tangible: they open doors, create genuine encounters, and bring people directly into conversation. And that is more than just a beautiful format – it is a strategic building block for an industry that is already one of Hamburg’s largest employers today and provides significant economic impetus. For attracting skilled workers and young talent, this open, accessible format therefore offers a strong and convincing proposition.”
More Than Just Accommodation: A Hub for Encounters and Curiosity
With approximately 300 program points, the 46 participating hotels aim to demonstrate that a hotel can be much more than just a place to stay – it is a venue for encounters, enjoyment, and curiosity.
Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, highlighted the broader impact of travel: “Travel is much more than just a change of location. It is encounter, education, recreation. It makes diversity tangible – culturally, humanly, or culinarily. Travel strengthens democracy because it makes the unfamiliar more familiar. And it increases the quality of life – for those who set off. And for those who are hosts.”
Otremba further stated, “A city that is attractive to its residents is automatically attractive to guests. This principle is an important foundation of our tourism development in Hamburg. That’s why we develop offers like the ‘Open Hotel Days’ for Hamburg residents, opening doors to extraordinary experiences and making outstanding hosts tangible.”
Kathrin Wirth-Ueberschär, Vice President of Dehoga Hamburg and General Manager of Reichshof Hamburg, underscored the industry’s focus on talent: “Hotels and restaurants are places with people for people. Therefore, our multifaceted industry is particularly focused on attracting motivated skilled workers and young professionals. It is all the more important to make the opportunities and special advantages of our industry tangible for young talent and for Hamburg residents.”
This event is poised to offer a unique perspective on Hamburg’s vibrant hotel scene, fostering a deeper connection between the city’s residents and its crucial hospitality sector, while also serving as a powerful initiative for recruiting future talent.
