Berlin, August 19 – Activate, the Canada-based indoor entertainment franchise, has officially opened its first location in the DACH region. Situated in the prominent Mall of Berlin, the new venue brings a unique physical gaming experience to the German capital. This expansion is a collaborative effort with VRex Entertainment and Sounds Fun Entertainment, marking a significant step for Activate into the European market.
A New Era of Interactive Entertainment in Berlin
The new Activate facility spans over 10,000 square feet (approximately 900 square meters) and is designed to immerse players in a dynamic, technology-driven gaming environment. It features eleven distinct game rooms, offering more than 800 difficulty levels. Teams of two to five players can challenge themselves, friends, families, or colleagues, aiming to set new records through a series of physical and mental challenges.
“We built Activate to feel like a game, a workout, and a party all at once,” stated Adam Schmidt, Co-Founder and CEO of Activate. He further added, “Germany has an incredible gaming culture, and we’re excited to watch players make Activate their own.”
Technology Meets Live-Action Gaming
Activate’s innovative approach combines cutting-edge technology with live-action gameplay. Players are equipped with RFID wristbands, which track their individual progress and record their results digitally. The diverse game rooms are engineered to test various skills, including speed, coordination, and problem-solving abilities, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging experience for all participants.
Christian Ebster, Co-Founder of VRex Entertainment, emphasized the appeal of the concept in the region: “Germany has a strong culture of social entertainment and Activate offers something entirely different – an experience where teams move, think, and compete together. We’re excited to introduce this new form of entertainment to players across the DACH region.”
Strategic Expansion Across the DACH Region
The Berlin opening is just the beginning of Activate’s ambitious expansion plans for the DACH region. Jeremiah Sizemore of Sounds Fun Entertainment highlighted the strategic importance of this launch: “From the beginning, we saw a real opportunity to bring Activate to Germany with a partner who understood both the experience and the market. Working alongside VRex to help make this launch a reality has been incredibly rewarding. They have the local expertise, energy, and ambition to build something special here, and we’re excited to see Berlin open its doors and what comes next across Germany.”
Further locations are already scheduled to open in the coming months. A venue at Next Level Funpark in Fürth is expected to launch by the end of August, followed by another at Lili Mall in Wiesbaden in November. Looking ahead to next year, Activate plans to enter the Austrian market with a location in Vienna in spring. Additionally, the company has plans for multiple locations across Switzerland. Globally, Activate currently operates approximately 80 venues, solidifying its position as a leader in the indoor entertainment sector.
The expansion into the DACH region underscores Activate’s commitment to providing accessible and engaging entertainment options to a broader international audience. The unique blend of physical activity and mental challenges aims to cater to a wide demographic, from casual gamers to competitive groups.
