A flight operated by Air Cairo, traveling from the Egyptian holiday destination of Hurghada to Munich, was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Belgrade, Serbia. The diversion was confirmed by a spokesperson for Munich Airport.

Unscheduled Landing in Belgrade

The aircraft, which was scheduled to arrive in Munich at 3:06 PM CEST on Friday, May 15, 2026, was redirected to Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade. The exact number of passengers on board was not immediately available. As of Friday evening, the flight was still listed as ‘delayed’ on the Munich Airport website.

Reports of Smoke in the Cabin

According to a report from the Serbian newspaper “Blic,” the diversion was prompted by the presence of smoke in the cabin. However, officials at Munich Airport initially had no further details regarding the cause of the unscheduled stop. Hurghada is a popular tourist region located on the Red Sea.

Further information regarding the incident is expected as investigations proceed. The well-being of the passengers and crew remains the primary concern.
