Attempted Robbery of Cash Transporter in Berlin-Charlottenburg – Suspects at Large

Berlin, January 19, 2026 – A dramatic but ultimately unsuccessful attempted robbery of a cash transporter took place on Thursday afternoon in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The criminal police are currently investigating the incident, which involved two masked perpetrators and the use of irritant gas.

Armed Attack at MediaMarkt Delivery Entrance

According to a report by the “BZ” newspaper, the incident occurred around 4:00 PM at the delivery entrance of the MediaMarkt store at the corner of Krumme Straße and Wilmersdorfer Straße. Two masked assailants, reportedly armed with irritant gas, targeted a cash transporter, apparently with the intention of stealing money.

A cash transporter employee and a security guard from the electronics store were leaving the premises and heading towards the transporter when the two attackers struck. The situation quickly escalated, with the perpetrators allegedly spraying irritant gas to incapacitate the two men. The MediaMarkt employee suffered painful eye irritation but managed to prevent the attackers from accessing the money containers or the transporter.

Suspects Still on the Run, Burnt Vehicle Discovered

Following their failed attempt, the masked individuals fled the scene. Reports suggest they entered a waiting vehicle and managed to escape undetected. The Berlin police have confirmed that an extensive manhunt is underway for the two men. Investigators are also examining whether there were accomplices or observers who might have coordinated the operation, a common pattern in cash transporter robberies in Berlin.

The injured employee received medical attention at the scene but did not require hospitalization. Immediately after the attack, police began reviewing video footage from the MediaMarkt and surrounding businesses. Witnesses were also interviewed, but it remains unclear where the perpetrators fled or whether they abandoned or switched vehicles in the vicinity.

The criminal police are investigating the case as attempted aggravated robbery. Authorities believe that the perpetrators acted professionally, even though their plan ultimately failed.

On Friday morning, a potential breakthrough occurred: a burnt vehicle was discovered. A witness reported seeing the burning car during the night on Forckenbeckstraße and alerted the fire department. This vehicle could potentially be connected to the crime, and investigations are ongoing.
